What Is Wrong In Calling PM ‘Sir’?

Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is suffering from ‘superiority complex.’He is trying to project himself as a senior most politician in the country and nobody can match his political skills and knowledge.

Ever since he parted ways with the Bharatiya Janata Party in April last, Naidu has been running down Prime Minister Narendra Modi for betraying the people of Andhra Pradesh. He has been saying that Modi had developed a grouse against him personally and therefore, has been meting out a raw deal to the state. What is more, Naidu is claiming that he is senior to Modi in politics and even as the chief minister.

He also does not lose any chance to remind the people that he had been the front runner for the Prime Minister post way back in 1996, but had sacrificed the same for the sake of the people of Andhra Pradesh. So, Naidu wants to create the impression that Modi is nothing before him, but yet, he had given all the respect to Modi because of the latter’s egoistic personality.

“I addressed him as ‘sir’ just to satisfy ego, though he is junior to me in politics, thinking that he would help the state,” he said.

“When I met then US President Bill Clinton, I addressed him as Mr. Clinton, not as ‘sir’. Modi is my junior in politics. But when he came (to power), I addressed him as sir 10 times. I did this for the sake of the state and to satisfy his ego in the hope that he will do justice to the state,” Naidu said.

One wonders what was wrong in calling Modi as Sir. After all, he is the Prime Minister of the country. Calling US president with name is different as even a common man will call the President as Mr President. But in India, it has been the tradition to call the people in highest position as sir.

For that matter, will Naidu tolerate if his party MLAs call him Naidu? Won’t they call him – CM garu or sir?
