There is rising debate within the Andhra Pradesh Congress party about PCC Chief YS Sharmila’s leadership style and her handling of party affairs. Discussions are centering on two key issues: her personal approach and the way she manages party matters—both of which have become major points of concern among party insiders.
At present, Sharmila appears to be fighting a largely solitary battle. Public turnout at her meetings and events has been noticeably low, and senior party leaders have been reluctant to show their support publicly. Though these challenges are not openly discussed, they have created a palpable tension behind the scenes.
Recently, Manickam Tagore, the party’s in-charge, reportedly convened a phone meeting with state leaders to address these issues. During the discussion, Sharmila expressed frustration over the lack of support she has been receiving, claiming she is being left isolated. On the other hand, Manickam relayed the sentiments of senior leaders who feel sidelined and pointed out that Sharmila has often taken major decisions without consulting the wider leadership.
He emphasized that the party’s growth depends on collective leadership rather than individual agendas and urged that all leaders be involved in efforts to strengthen the party’s connection with the public. Without a change in approach, Manickam warned, the party could continue to face difficulties.
Now, all eyes are on Sharmila—whether she will modify her strategy to foster greater unity or persist on her current path remains to be seen.
