Jagan Mohan Reddy’s announcement to rename Krishna district as NTR district has stirred a big debate among people, political circuits. Especially, many in Krishna district, including hard-core fans of legendary NTR, are expressing doubts, concerns over Jagan’s statement.
While during YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s tenure, gross injustice has been meted out to NTR and his followers. Rajasekhar Reddy was apparently behind the dropping of NTR’s name to Shamshabad Airport.
Going into details, then Begumpet airport had two terminals : NT Rama Rao Domestic Terminal and Rajiv Gandhi International Terminal. While the airport is shifted to Shamshabad, NTR’s name was dropped and only Rajiv Gandhi name was retained. It took place during YSR’s regime. The RGIA was later inaugurated by Sonia Gandhi in March 2008.
TDP had protested a lot but in vain. All the protests, requests, appeals of TDP to save NTR’s name for Shamshabad airport have gone wasted then. With Jagan stating to rename Krishna district as NTR District, many of NTR’s die-hard fans are expressing their doubts and not many are really believing Jagan’s statement.
