Today marks the sixth death anniversary of former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Rajasekhara Reddy. Known as the Messiah of the masses, YSR, through several of his welfare schemes for the poor, rose skyhigh in terms of mass adulation. Tragically, little did everyone realise that the beloved ex-CM will bid goodbye to everyone from the sky.
Revealing the series of happenings that took place in the last two days before the fateful day of 2nd September, 2009, the then Additional Secretary to the CM and the last person to interact with him, Bhaskar Sharma, said that YSR, after swearing in as the CM for the second time in a row, decided to go on a surprise visit to several villages in the districts of Chittoor, Nellore and Prakasam.
YS ordered his team to build helipads and field the security men in the villages he planned to tour for Rachabanda program and enquire whether the government schemes like free ration, students and senior pensions, free electricity and ration cards issuance etc.
At 4:35 am on 2nd September, YSR called Bhaskar Sharma and enquired about the helicopter, Chief Security Officer and the team of ministers who will be accompanying him. At 7:50 am, YSR left for Begumpet Airport from his camp office and interacted with Intelligence DG Aravinda Rao, Principal Secretary and the media personnel at the airport.
As he boarded the chopper, YSR asked Bhaskar Sharma how long will the journey be and said his final goodbye.
