The Indian Premier League (IPL) auction ahead of the eighth season started in Bengaluru on Monday. Indian left-hander Yuvraj Singh created all time record in IPL history and he was bought by the Delhi Daredevils for a whopping Rs.16 crore. A bidding war between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the Daredevils saw Yuvraj’s price sky-rocket.
This was the highest ever price in IPL history for a palyer. Last year RCB purchased Yuvraj by spending 14 crores. Yuvraj went for auction with base price of 2 crores but the competition between four teams eventually raised his price. Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers, Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Daredevils competed to buy India’s 2011 World Cup hero.
But once the bidding reached Rs 7 crore, RR and KXIP quit, leaving DD and RCB in the fray.FinallY DD dared to buy Yuvraj with 16 crores. However, it was quite a surprise to see Yuvraj going past his last year’s price as he has been out of the Indian team for some time.
RCB, who lost to DD in their bid to get Yuvraj bought wicketkeeper batsman Dinesh Karthik for Rs 10.5 crore, the second highest price.
