Mohan Babu Gets Interim Relief from Andhra Pradesh High Court in Kidnapping Case

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday granted interim relief to veteran actor Mohan Babu in connection with a kidnapping case linked to student union leaders. The court directed the police not to take any coercive action against him until April 16, when it is expected to pronounce its verdict on his anticipatory bail petition.

The case stems from an alleged incident in February, in which Tiruchanur Police Station registered a kidnapping case against Mohan Babu and others in Tirupati district.

During the hearing, the actor’s counsel argued that he had no direct involvement in the alleged incident and was not present at the location at the time. It was further submitted that he travelled from Hyderabad to Tirupati only at a later stage, and therefore had no connection with the alleged act.

The defence also claimed that the allegations were part of an attempt to damage the reputation of the university associated with him, and requested that police be directed to issue notices and record statements instead of proceeding with arrest.

However, the prosecution opposed the anticipatory bail plea, arguing that there was prima facie evidence linking Mohan Babu to the case, including phone conversations and messages with university staff around the time of the incident.

The court was also informed that Manchu Vishnu, named as Accused No. 3, failed to appear despite receiving notices.

The issue relates to protests by student groups alleging irregularities in fee collection by the university near Tirupati. Police had earlier launched a search operation, rescued the alleged victims, arrested several bouncers, and seized vehicles. Following this, cases were registered against multiple individuals, including Mohan Babu, under various sections of law.

The High Court is scheduled to deliver its ruling on the anticipatory bail petition on April 16.
