Dacoit Review – Routine Love Heist Drama

April 10, 2026

Share

Adivi Sesh returns to the big screen after his usual gap, teaming up with Mrunal Thakur for Dacoit, a film that blends love, revenge, and a heist backdrop. Despite strong promotional buzz, the final output struggles to match expectations.

Story Setup

Hari (Adivi Sesh) and Saraswathi (Mrunal Thakur) are former lovers torn apart by caste differences. Hari, believing he was betrayed and falsely jailed due to Saraswathi, returns with vengeance in mind. Years later, fate brings them together again as they get involved in a heist to solve their personal struggles. The rest of the film explores whether revenge or redemption wins.

Technical Aspects

The cinematography by Danush Bhaskar is decent, offering natural and acceptable visuals. Editing by Kodati Pavan Kalyan feels stylish and crisp in parts, though the narrative itself remains flat. Bheems Ceciroleo’s songs are underwhelming, with only “Roobaroo” standing out slightly. The special number fails to leave an impact. However, the background score by Gyaani is a major strength, adding freshness and energy to several scenes. Production values are adequate but do not reflect the rumored high budget.

The story by Shaniel Deo and Adivi Sesh feels outdated, and the screenplay only partially redeems it with a few modern touches. As a director, Shaniel Deo makes an underwhelming debut with inconsistent narration.

Performances

Adivi Sesh fits his role well, especially in emotional and rugged prison portions, though his Rayalaseema dialect feels inconsistent. Mrunal Thakur delivers a strong, mature performance and carries her role effectively, even though dubbing slightly affects authenticity. Supporting actors like Prakash Raj, Anurag Kashyap, Atul Kulkarni, and Zayn Marie Khan are adequate, with Anurag showing some spark in the climax.

Positives

  • Adivi Sesh & Mrunal Thakur performances
  • Background score
  • Climax episode
  • Stylish treatment in parts

Negatives

  • Outdated storyline
  • Flat and slow narration
  • Weak emotional connect
  • Repetitive action sequences
  • Average songs

Analysis

The film begins on a decent note, establishing the core love story and conflict effectively. While the technical aspects support the film well, the narration quickly becomes slow and predictable. The promotional promise of high-intensity action is not fully delivered, with many sequences feeling staged rather than gripping.

The interval block brings a slight improvement, and the second half starts with an interesting twist. However, despite a few decent ideas, the execution lacks impact. The heist portions feel repetitive, and the emotional depth never fully lands due to weak storytelling.

The climax works better emotionally but arrives without strong buildup, reducing its overall impact. The biggest drawback is the routine storyline and lack of gripping narration, which hold the film back significantly.

Final Verdict

Dacoit is a technically decent but emotionally weak film that suffers from predictable writing and flat execution. Despite good performances and a strong background score, it never rises above its routine setup.

Bottom Line

A watchable but mediocre love-heist drama – “Mediocre Prema Katha.”
