Director Sekhar Kammula’s much-anticipated film Kubera has been in the works for nearly two years. Although there was some relief when he recently hinted at a summer release, new hurdles have emerged, pushing the film’s release further into uncertainty.

Rashmika Mandanna, one of the film’s lead actresses, sustained an injury during a workout. Doctors have advised her to refrain from filming for at least another month, causing disruptions in the shooting schedule. As a result, the planned release for May has now been delayed.

Dhanush, who plays the lead role, is reportedly frustrated with the series of setbacks. Having already committed more time to this project than he typically does, he’s understandably eager to wrap it up. Kubera, a bilingual film in both Telugu and Tamil, also stars Nagarjuna, Jim Sarbh, and Rashmika Mandanna. Produced by Suniel Narang and Puskur Rammohan Rao under the banner of Amigos Creations, the film boasts music by Devi Sri Prasad, cinematography by Niketh Bommireddy, and editing by Karthika Srinivas.

Initially announced in June 2021 with the tentative title D51, as it marked Dhanush’s 51st film as a lead actor, the film began principal photography in February 2024. The official title was revealed the following month. Filming took place in Hyderabad and Mumbai. Originally slated for a worldwide release in December 2024, Kubera now faces an uncertain release date due to the reent delays.
