Kareena Kapoor on Intimate Scenes, “Not Essential for Storytelling”

Intimate and sex scenes are quite common in Hollywood and world cinema, but they remain relatively rare in the Indian film industry. Star heroine Kareena Kapoor acknowledges this and believes that such scenes are not essential to advancing a film’s narrative. She also feels that Indian cinema does not perceive sex or sexuality as a natural human experience.

In a recent interview with Dirty Magazine, Kareena expressed her perspective on the subject. She stated that she does not find sex scenes necessary to move a story forward and personally does not feel the need for them in her films. “I know I might not be comfortable doing that on screen. I never have done it,” she asserted.

She further emphasized that she has no intention of performing such scenes in her career and believes that Indian audiences are still not fully receptive to them. “It’s just the way we perceive the concept. We don’t look at sexuality or sex as a human experience. Before we bring it to the screen, we need to start recognizing and respecting it more. That’s my belief. In comparison to the West, we are still not as open,” Kareena explained.

On the professional front, Kareena Kapoor was last seen in Singham Again and will next be featured in Meghna Gulzar’s upcoming directorial, Daayra.
