Preity Zinta Slams ₹18 Crore Loan Write-Off Allegations
Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, known for her roles in Telugu hits like Premante Idera and Raja Kumarudu, is set to make a comeback with Lahore 1947, starring Sunny Deol. However, her return has been clouded by allegations regarding an ₹18 crore loan write-off, which she has strongly refuted.
The controversy arose after a Moneylife report highlighted financial irregularities in New India Cooperative Bank Ltd. The investigation revealed that corporate loans of up to ₹25 crore were sanctioned without proper oversight, leading to mismanagement and non-performing assets (NPAs). Among the findings, reports claimed that an ₹18 crore loan linked to Preity Zinta was allegedly “written off” without adhering to standard recovery protocols, sparking speculation.
In response, Preity issued a firm denial through her legal team, clarifying that she had an overdraft facility with the bank over 12 years ago but had fully repaid the amount more than a decade ago. She emphasized that her account had been settled and closed long before these allegations surfaced. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), she slammed the misinformation, stating, “No one wrote off anything or any loan for me. I’m shocked that a political party or their representative is promoting fake news and indulging in vile gossip. For the record, a loan was taken and FULLY PAID BACK—over 10 years ago.”
With her strong rebuttal, Preity aims to put the controversy to rest and focus on her much-anticipated return to the big screen.
