Joining this growing list is renowned music composer Ravi Basrur, who has now made his directorial debut with the ambitious project Veera Chandra Hasa.

Famed for his thunderous background scores in blockbusters like KGF and Salaar, Ravi Basrur is venturing into new territory as a filmmaker. His debut film, Veera Chandra Hasa, hit theaters across Karnataka on April 18, 2025, and is set for a Telugu release on April 25, 2025.

Rooted in tradition, the film is inspired by the Ashwamedha Parva from the Mahabharata and deeply reflects Karnataka’s cultural heritage. It uniquely blends mythological storytelling with Yakshagana, a traditional folk theatre form native to the region. This fusion of classical epic and local art form makes Veera Chandra Hasa stand out as a rare cinematic experiment.

As expected, Ravi has also composed the film’s music, delivering the kind of emotionally rich and intense score he’s known for. This project marks one of his most personal and creative ventures to date. It remains to be seen whether Veera Chandra Hasa will mark the beginning of a new chapter for Ravi Basrur as a full-time director, but one thing is certain—he’s taken a bold step that merges art, culture, and cinema in a refreshing way.
