Among the top heroes of Tollywood, few have experimented as much as Akkineni Nagarjuna, and that’s no exaggeration. With films like Shiva, Geethanjali, Ninne Pelladatha, and Annamayya, he has constantly broken trends, offered opportunities to emerging directors, and embraced innovative roles throughout his career.

This year, Nagarjuna has taken his performances to a whole new level. After taking a short break as a solo hero, he starred alongside Tamil actor Dhanush in Kubera and also played a key role in Coolie, featuring superstar Rajinikanth. In Kubera, Nagarjuna portrayed Deepak Raj, an ex-CBI officer, in a role that surprised audiences. Stepping completely out of his usual image, he embraced a character with subtle negative shades and convincingly portrayed someone who faces moral conflicts and consequences. This Deepak Raj role has become a standout in his career. Even though the character had negative undertones, its overall impact was positive, earning appreciation from viewers.

Now, Nagarjuna is ready for an even bolder challenge. In Coolie, he takes on a full-fledged villain role. He revealed in a past interview that the role is so intense that it made him wonder if people in real life behave this cruelly, giving a sense of just how violent the character is. The real test will be whether Tollywood fans can accept their beloved hero in such a ruthless avatar.

Despite being a villain, the Simon character has been stylishly presented by director Lokesh Kanagaraj, keeping in mind the audience’s love for iconic villain roles in cinema. Fans are hopeful that the response to Simon will be positive, and if it is, Nagarjuna is set to create yet another trend. His bold choice might even encourage other stars to explore negative roles in the future.
