Contrary to widespread speculation, Vidya Balan has not been cast in director Puri Jagannadh’s upcoming film featuring Tamil powerhouse Vijay Sethupathi. A well-placed industry source has firmly dismissed the rumors, stating, “Vidya Balan was never approached for this project. These reports are completely baseless.”

However, the source did confirm a major casting development—Tabu has been roped in for a significant performance-oriented role in the film. “Tabu was the first and only choice for the role. She was deeply impressed by the script and has committed herself fully to the project,” the insider added.

Puri Jagannadh is known for bringing strong female characters to life and has previously collaborated with Bollywood actresses such as Ameesha Patel (Badri), Kangana Ranaut (Ek Niranjan), and Ayesha Takia (Super). His knack for casting seasoned talent from Hindi cinema continues with Tabu’s inclusion in this high-profile venture.

Meanwhile, Vidya Balan was also linked to another major film—Akhanda 2, alongside Nandamuri Balakrishna. The two had earlier acted together in Kathanayakudu, which sparked renewed fan interest. But the source was quick to debunk these reports as well. “Vidya was never in consideration for Akhanda 2 either. Those rumors have no merit and have since faded out.”
