Rising star Nitanshi Goel, best known for her acclaimed role in the Oscar-nominated Laapataa Ladies, made a striking debut at the Cannes Film Festival this Thursday. At just 17, the young actress captured attention with her carefully curated ensembles that paid homage to Indian culture and the golden era of Hindi cinema.

For her first appearance at the India Pavilion, Nitanshi opted for an elegant ivory saree, styled with understated accessories to let the intricate craftsmanship take center stage. Her blouse featured delicate hand embroidery using pearls and beads—an ode to the richness of traditional Indian heirloom fashion. However, the most captivating part of her outfit was the unique hairstyle adorned with cascading pearl strands and miniature photo frames of legendary Bollywood actresses. These included icons like Madhubala, Meena Kumari, Rekha, Waheeda Rehman, Sridevi, Nutan, Hema Malini, and Vyjayanthimala—a heartfelt tribute to the women who paved the way in Indian cinema.

In the evening, Nitanshi returned to the red carpet in a show-stopping black gown with gold embroidery, pushing the edge of Cannes’ updated dress code that now discourages extravagant trains. Her look nevertheless dazzled as she attended the screening of Dossier 137.

Speaking to Brut from the red carpet, an emotional Nitanshi shared her joy:
