The legendary actor Mohanlal is on track to create a unique record this year, reaffirming his position as one of Indian cinema’s most consistent performers. With two theatrical releases already in 2025—Empuraan and Thudarum—the versatile star is now set for a grand Onam release with his upcoming film Hridayapoorvam.

Despite receiving mixed reviews, Empuraan made a strong impact at the box office, especially in Kerala, and ensured that Mohanlal remained in the spotlight. Following that, Thudarum proved to be a massive success, creating history by becoming the first film to gross over ₹100 crore in Kerala alone. The film also performed well nationwide and found success in its Telugu-dubbed version.

Adding to the excitement, Mohanlal took to X today to announce the completion of Hridayapoorvam, a heartfelt family drama directed by Sathyan Anthikad. The screenplay is penned by Sonu T.P., based on a story by Anthikad’s son, Akhil Sathyan. The film is slated for a grand release on August 28th, just in time for Onam festivities.

If Hridayapoorvam clicks at the box office, Mohanlal will become the first senior actor in recent Indian cinema to deliver three successful theatrical releases in a single calendar year—an achievement reminiscent of Mammootty’s golden run in Malayalam but unmatched by any other senior star across South India or the nation.

Adding to his already impressive lineup, Mohanlal will also appear in a cameo role in Kannappa, and is currently working on several other ambitious projects, including Vrushabha, Ram, and another untitled Malayalam film.
