There’s been massive buzz surrounding the budget of the mythological epic Ramayana ever since the first glimpse of the film was unveiled a few days ago. Speculations were rife on the internet with varying figures being quoted, but now, the film’s producer Namit Malhotra has officially clarified the numbers.

In a recent podcast, Namit Malhotra revealed that a whopping $500 million (approximately ₹4000 crores) is being spent to produce both parts of Ramayana. This staggering figure makes Ramayana the most expensive Indian film ever made, by a huge margin. To date, no Indian film has come close to breaching even the ₹1000 crore mark in production costs, putting Ramayana in an unparalleled league. This also places the film among the most expensive cinematic franchises globally.

“By the time both films — Part 1 and Part 2 — are completed, we will have spent around $500 million, roughly ₹4000 crores. We’re creating the largest film in the world based on the greatest story ever told — one that deserves global attention,” Namit said.

He further added that despite the colossal budget, Ramayana is still being made at a lower cost compared to some Hollywood blockbusters.

“For me, this is not about the money. In fact, I believe we’re making a bigger film than many in Hollywood, but at a much lower cost,” he added.

The film is set for a global release across multiple languages, with the makers positioning it on par with major DC or Marvel productions.

Ramayana is being jointly produced by Namit Malhotra and Yash, with Nitesh Tiwari directing this ambitious project. The stellar cast includes Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey as Laxman, among others.

The makers have planned a strategic release: Part 1 will arrive during Diwali 2026, followed by Part 2 in Diwali 2027, setting the stage for one of the grandest cinematic events in Indian film history.
