Rajinikanth’s Jailer has become one of the most profitable dubbed films in recent times, generating nearly three times the profit in terms of investment and theatrical returns. With the immense success of the first part, the excitement around the sequel, Jailer 2, is palpable.

The shooting for Jailer 2 has already begun, and the production house confirmed this progress a few weeks ago. Both Rajinikanth and director Nelson Dilip Kumar are actively working on the film, building anticipation for its release.

Meanwhile, discussions surrounding the film’s theatrical evaluation in the Telugu states have intensified, particularly regarding the financial stakes involved. A fierce competition has emerged among various production houses for the Telugu states’ theatrical rights for Jailer 2. It has been reported that one leading production house offered ₹60 crore for the rights, but the film’s producer is holding out for a higher price. The confidence behind this decision comes from the success of Jailer Part 1, which earned approximately ₹100 crore in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana alone.

For context, the first film did a pre-release business of ₹12 crore and went on to deliver a ₹47 crore share, making a profit of ₹34 crore. It grossed nearly ₹100 crore in the Telugu states. However, the demand for the sequel’s rights has skyrocketed, with even the ₹60 crore offer being rejected. The producers are reportedly aiming for an even higher amount and are determined to seal the deal only when they find the right offer.
