Chinmayi Sripada is widely known among South Indian audiences not only for her singing but also for her outspoken views on issues related to women’s rights. The singer has once again sparked a major debate after strongly criticising prominent personalities from the Tamil film industry. Chinmayi recently reacted to congratulatory messages posted by Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan for veteran lyricist Vairamuthu, who was recently honoured with the prestigious Jnanpith Award for his contribution to Tamil literature.

The issue traces back to the #MeToo movement in 2018, when Chinmayi accused Vairamuthu of sexual misconduct. At the time, several other women also made similar allegations against the lyricist. Chinmayi has repeatedly spoken about the issue over the years and has criticised the Tamil film industry for allegedly ignoring the allegations.

Following the announcement of the Jnanpith Award, many film personalities congratulated Vairamuthu on social media. Among them were Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, whose posts praising the lyricist drew a strong reaction from Chinmayi.

Responding to their messages, she wrote on X: “End of the day, men will stand by their bros, uncles, dads, friends and mentors. Who cares if multiple women were traumatised?” Her remarks quickly gained attention online and triggered widespread discussion.

Chinmayi also expressed disappointment over the award decision itself. In a series of posts, she pointed out that several women had accused the lyricist during the 2018 movement and said that their voices had been ignored. She also claimed that speaking out had come at a personal cost to her career and life.

The singer further stated that many women who raised allegations in the past eventually chose to step away from their professional aspirations due to the pressure and lack of support.

Her strong criticism of some of the most influential figures in the Tamil film industry has once again become a major talking point across media platforms and within industry circles, reigniting debates around accountability and the treatment of women who speak out about harassment.
