Saif Ali Khan May Lose ₹15,000 Crore Ancestral Property

January 22, 2025

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan may lose his family’s ancestral property in Bhopal due to legal complications. The property, originally belonging to Nawab Hamidullah Khan, Saif’s ancestor, is estimated to be worth around ₹15,000 crore. Recent legal developments have cast uncertainty over its ownership.

The estate includes notable landmarks such as the Flag Staff House, Noor-Us-Sabah Palace, and Dar-Us-Salam. The dispute arises from the Enemy Property Act, a law enabling the government to take over properties of individuals who migrated to Pakistan during Partition.

In December 2024, the Madhya Pradesh High Court made a pivotal ruling, lifting a stay order on the property. Justice Vivek Agarwal directed all stakeholders to submit their representations within 30 days. However, it remains unclear whether these submissions have been made. Local authorities, including Bhopal Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh, await further clarification from the High Court before proceeding.

The Enemy Property Act, amended in 2017, bars descendants of individuals who moved to Pakistan or China during Partition from reclaiming such properties. This amendment could jeopardize Saif Ali Khan’s claim to the estate, leaving the family’s future stake in the property uncertain.
