After earning praise for her performance in The Great Shamsuddin Family, where she played a stressed daughter balancing work and a family crisis, Kritika is now seen in a completely different avatar as a wealthy Parsi widow in Matka King. The show, directed by Nagraj Manjule, also stars Vijay Varma.

Both Kritika and Vijay come from non-industry backgrounds, gradually building their careers through persistence and thoughtful choices. Kritika shares that her journey hasn’t been defined by overnight success but by steady growth through diverse roles. This gradual evolution, she says, has helped shape how filmmakers perceive her today.

She acknowledges that while she aims to be more in control of her career, the reality is that actors often have limited influence over what gets made and offered to them. Factors like the type of content being produced and the depth of female characters significantly impact her choices. At times, she has had to wait patiently for meaningful roles that align with her vision.

Kritika credits her role in The Great Shamsuddin Family, directed by Anusha Rizvi, as one of her most fulfilling experiences, noting that such content-driven films are increasingly rare. She hopes to eventually reach a stage where projects are written specifically for her or where she can actively back stories she believes in.

In Matka King, she explores yet another new dimension, portraying a character far removed from her real life. Her collaboration with Manjule was particularly exciting, given her admiration for his acclaimed films Fandry and Sairat. The series also introduced her to the world of Matka, a once-popular numbers-based gambling system in India during the 1960s and 70s.

On the personal front, Kritika recently married actor-host Gaurav Kapoor in an intimate ceremony, choosing simplicity over a grand celebration. Alongside her acting career, she is also focusing on expanding her Chanderi saree brand, drawing inspiration from her roots near Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh.
