Shruti Haasan Opens Up on Her Spiritual Transformation

Actress Shruti Haasan has opened up about her spiritual journey, sharing deeply personal insights that have caught public attention. Putting an end to the perception that she is an atheist, Shruti revealed how her belief in divinity gradually evolved over time.
She shared that her transformation began after visiting the Varahi Amman temple in Mylapore. The experience, she says, was profoundly moving and sparked a sense of devotion within her. “We don’t choose the goddess, the goddess chooses us,” Shruti remarked, adding that the feeling she experienced inside the sanctum is beyond words.
Beyond this, Shruti also frequently visits the revered Kamakhya Temple, one of the most significant Shakti Peethas in the country. She explained that during phases of intense personal and professional stress, spirituality became a strong source of support, helping her find inner peace and emotional balance. She firmly believes that her temple visits have also brought positive changes in her career.
Interestingly, her spiritual outlook contrasts with that of her father, Kamal Haasan. Despite being born into a traditional Brahmin family, Kamal Haasan is known for his rationalist and atheist beliefs. His scientific thinking and social awareness have shaped his views, keeping him distant from religious faith. However, even as an atheist, he has often explored themes of divinity in his films, notably in Dasavathaaram, where philosophical and spiritual elements are prominently depicted.
Despite her father’s contrasting ideology, Shruti has carved her own path when it comes to faith. As a modern, independent artist, she embraces both contemporary thinking and spiritual grounding. She credits spirituality for helping her navigate early career struggles and personal challenges, offering her strength and clarity.
Shruti is not alone in this space. Several leading actresses in South Indian cinema are known for their spiritual inclination. Nayanthara often visits prominent temples across the country, while actresses like Sneha, Anushka Shetty, and Samantha Ruth Prabhu actively practice spirituality and yoga. Stars such as Keerthy Suresh and Sai Pallavi have also publicly acknowledged the role of divine blessings in their success.
In the end, Shruti Haasan’s journey reflects a blend of individuality and belief—proving that faith, much like art, is deeply personal and evolves with life experiences.
