Chiranjeevi’s Smart Move, Dodging Mazaka and Comedy Pitfalls
With Mazaka now in theaters and receiving average reviews, the discussion about Chiranjeevi being approached for the project has resurfaced. In a recent interview, director Trinadh Rao Nakkina remarked that Mazaka might not have suited Chiranjeevi’s larger-than-life stature. If Chiranjeevi was indeed offered the film and chose to decline, it appears to have been a decision that worked in his favor.
Following the failure of Bholaa Shankar, Chiranjeevi became more cautious about his script choices. The film not only underperformed at the box office but also drew criticism for its outdated and cringe-worthy content. In the aftermath, Sushmita Konidela and People’s Media Factory planned a comedy-centric film under Kalyan Krishna’s direction. While the storyline was different from Mazaka, the film was set to follow a similarly lighthearted approach.
However, after experiencing backlash for Bholaa Shankar, Chiranjeevi realized that taking on another comedy-oriented film could be a risky move. Ultimately, he opted out of the project after the final narration. Looking back, this decision seems to have been a wise one. Even if a Mazaka-style film turned out to be a success, it would have likely typecast Chiranjeevi in similar roles, limiting his ability to explore more diverse and age-appropriate characters.
Fans have made it clear that they want to see Megastar in roles that align with his stature and experience rather than in formulaic entertainers. The younger generation also expects Chiranjeevi to embrace more refined and mature characters on screen. By making the right call at the right time, he has positioned himself to carefully curate his next projects, ensuring a well-planned and strategically sound career trajectory.
