1st Telangana Speaker Nominated As MLC under Governor Quota

To keep an end to the suspense on who will be picked as the local body MLC candidate under the Governor’s Quota, the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi(TRS) had opted for a senior party leader, who has been with the party since its inception. To clear the way, the nomination was approved by Telangana Governor.

To fill the MLC position under the Governor’s quota, the Telangana government had nominated former Speaker of Telangana Legislative Assembly Sirikonda Madusudhana Chary. It is said that the file nominating Madusudhana Chary as the MLC candidate was sent to Raj Bhavan, which was approved by Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan.

It is the second time the Government has sent a nomination file to the Governor. Earlier, Padi Kaushik Reddy, who defected to the ruling party TRS from the Congress party was nominated. However, the nomination was not approved by the Governor. Following this, the government had to zero on a suitable candidate for the nomination.

Despite many names surfaced as the aspirants for the nomination, the government preferred Madhusudhana Chary for the MLC nomination taking his experience into consideration.

Experts predict that Sirikonda Madusudhana Chary is likely to be made the Chairman of the Upper House Legislative Council, going by the fact that he had the experience of serving as the Speaker of the Assembly.

On the other hand, former Rajya Sabha member Banda Prakash who was elected to the Telangana Legislative Council is likely to be made the Deputy Chairman of the House.

Sirikonda Madusudhana Chary traveled with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi(TRS), who went on to become the first Speaker of the Telangana Assembly. When Telangana went for the elections after the bifurcation of the state in 2014, Chary was made the Assembly Speaker.

From 9 June 2014 to 16 January 2019, he rendered his services as the Speaker of the Telangana Assembly. He contested from the Bhupalapalli Assembly elections in 2014 and emerged victorious in the polls.

However, he could not repeat the same magic in the next elections. Having contested the 2018 elections, he was defeated by Congress Candidate Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy with a close margin.
