Kareena Kapoor Calls for Strong Writing Over Star Power in Bollywood

In a recent interview, Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor made an interesting observation about the changing dynamics of the film industry. She stated that if major stars are no longer consistently delivering box office numbers, the industry should place greater emphasis on writers and fresh storytelling ideas. Her comment has sparked widespread discussion within Bollywood circles.

At present, several top stars including Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Ajay Devgn have faced underwhelming box office results with their recent commercial releases. Interestingly, Kareena has previously shared screen space with many of these actors, adding further attention to her remarks.

Over the past few years, Bollywood has witnessed a clear shift in audience preference. While big-budget, star-driven films have struggled to sustain momentum beyond opening weekends, content-focused films have found stronger acceptance. Movies like Kantara and Dhurandhar are often cited as examples where strong writing and storytelling played a key role in their success.

This shift has raised an important question within the industry—are star powers losing their influence, or are audiences simply becoming more selective and story-driven? Many observers believe it is the latter, especially in the post-OTT era where viewers have greater access to diverse content and global cinema.

Even though some films have made a strong impact at the box office, industry response has not always reflected the same enthusiasm. At the same time, it is also widely acknowledged that star power still plays a crucial role in generating initial openings and wide theatrical reach.

Ultimately, Kareena Kapoor’s statement highlights an ongoing transformation in Bollywood—one where content and writing are becoming increasingly central, and the industry’s future direction may depend on how quickly it adapts to evolving audience expectations.
