8th century Kerala mosque finally lets women in. But conditions apply

With sequels fast becoming the latest trend in Tollywood, senior star Venkatesh is all set to step into this successful zone. Strong industry buzz suggests that the actor has given his green signal to the sequel of his 2025 Sankranthi blockbuster Sankranthiki Vasthunam. Tentatively titled Adhiripodhi Sankranthi, the film is expected to arrive as a festive treat during the Pongal season in January 2027. Director Anil Ravipudi, who is currently enjoying a golden run at the box office, will once again helm the project.

While the sequel will retain the festive flavour that worked big time for the original, sources clarify that it will be based on a completely fresh script with new character arcs, rather than a continuation of the earlier story. Adding to the excitement, the sequel is said to feature Venkatesh alongside his nephew Rana Daggubati, bringing the real-life uncle-nephew duo together on the big screen.

According to sources, both Venkatesh and Rana will have equally strong, well-written roles, and their on-screen face-off will be one of the major highlights of the film. This pairing is particularly interesting as the duo previously shared screen space in the popular web series Rana Naidu, where they played estranged father and son in intense, grey-shaded roles. This time, however, they are expected to appear in positive, good-natured characters, matching each other performance-wise in a wholesome entertainer.

Star producer Dil Raju, who backed the first film and reaped rich dividends, is likely to bankroll the sequel as well. With Sankranthiki Vasthunam emerging as a major box-office success, expectations are naturally high for the follow-up. Venkatesh has firmly cemented his image as one of Tollywood’s most reliable stars for family entertainers, while Rana Daggubati too is keen on strengthening his connect with family audiences across both Telugu states.

Bringing together Venkatesh, Rana Daggubati, Anil Ravipudi and Dil Raju for a festive sequel is being seen as a major casting and commercial coup, making Adhiripodhi Sankranthi one of the most eagerly awaited projects of 2027.
