The former ministers submitted to the court that the CDs submitted by the CBI were not clear and they would file their counters after the original CDs were submitted. They pleaded with the court to direct the CBI to file original CDs.
It may be mentioned here that the CBI had submitted to the court the CDs of media conferences addressed by Dharmana and Sabita stating that what they told to the media amounted to contempt of the judiciary. Stating that the duo told the media that they did not commit anything wrong and claimed that they would come out clean, the CBI questioned how they could say that they would come out clean, when the matter was before a court. The CBI contended that this amounted to contempt of the judiciary. The court, which admitted the memos of the CBI, directed the former ministers to file their counters.
To this, the two said they would file their counters only after CBI submitted original CDs. Dharmana and Sabita told the court that they had only told the media why they had resigned. However, the CBI prosecutors told the court that they had taken the videos from the You Tube. The defence counsels of the ministers said the videos of You Tube were not authentic.
It may be recalled that Dharmana and Sabita had resigned from the cabinet after the CBI named them accused in the Jagan illegal assets case. They later held media conferences and claimed innocence. They exuded confidence that they would be able to prove their innocence in the court.
Taking objection to the two claiming innocence and stating that they would come out clean, the CBI contended that this amounted to contempt of court and sought their custody. The CBI said the two were likely to influence the witnesses if they were allowed to remain out.
