It is learnt that a decision to this effect was taken in the core committee meeting on Friday. Sonia Gandhi invited the state congress affairs in charge Ghulam Nabi Azad and home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde to the meeting and heard their views on the issue.
The high command has once again brought the Rayala Telangana proposal to the fore. The Congress high command has earlier considered the proposal of separating Hyderabad from the rest of the Telangana region and combine the Telangana districts with Rayalaseema districts of Anantapur and Kurnool to form the Rayala Telangana state. It is also being said that if this proposal was not accepted by a majority of the leaders, a special package might be announced for all the Telangana districts and some backward districts of the rest of Andhra Pradesh. It is being said that the centre might announce a package of Rs. 20 to 25 thousand crores of rupees for the development of all these backward districts.
It is learnt that the high command has discussed the proposal of combining Anantapur and Kurnool districts of Rayalaseema with Telangana and forming Rayala Telangana as well as special package with the former PCC president D Srinivas in the past few days.
However, TRS leaders including Harish Rao and K T Rama Rao dismissed these proposals. Harish Rao said this was one more a “leak”, deliberately released by the Congress high command, to scuttle the Telangana process. KTR said they would not accept any alternative to the formation of Telangana.
Meanwhile the Telangana ministers and Congress MPs who met in the chamber of Panchayat Raj minister K Jana Reddy on Saturday also discussed about the Rayala Telangana and Special Package proposals. They have decided to hold an extended meeting with MLAS, Ministers and MPs of the region on June 18 and discuss the issue further and take a decision on the future course of action.
