Sai Korrapati who has not only produced big films like Eega and Legend has also made few small movies with different themes. Coming from his production house Tungabhadra caught the attention of Telugu movie lovers.

Story :

Tungabhadra is about a political feud in a village called Tatikonda. Ramaraju (Satya Raj) and his opponent (Kota Srinivasa Rao) keep on fighting for the dominance in their village. Srinu (Adith) is the henchman of Ramaraju who falls in love with his master’s daughter Gauri (Dimple). Srinu doesn’t express his love to Gauri as he comes know about the faith and belief of Ramaraju in him. But Ramaraju eventually comes to know about Srinu and Gauri. What happens to the love pair forms rest of the story.

Performances:

Adith is good in the lead role. He is expressive and has impressive body language. He should work a bit on his diction though. Dimple has proved her mettle in previous films itself. She did well in this one too. Satya Raj stands as the pillar for this movie. His stellar performance is one of the strengths of this film. Kota Srinivasa Rao is usual. Saptagiri is wasted. All others did their job in their respective roles.

Technicalities:

Director Srinivas Gogineni’s intensions are good. He tried to give a strong message through this film but didn’t get his narration right. There are many loose ends in the film along with drawbacks like slow pace and uninteresting screenplay. Srinivas gets the basics right but failed in executing the plot in an engaging fashion.

Production values are good. Music could have been better. Cinematography is alright. Production design needs a mention. The locations chosen for the film are very good. Editing is fine, but more chopping would have worked due to the slackened pace.

Thumbs Up:

  • Satya Raj
  • Cinematography

Thumbs Down:

  • Screenplay
  • Slow Pace
  • Music

Analysis:

Tungabhadra film is made with noble intentions. But the film fails on keeping the audience glued to the screens. Except for few realistic crime scenes here and there, Tungabhadra doesn’t impress on a whole. We have to applaud the makers for coming up with something useful for the society, but they should have taken care about the elements that entertain common filmgoers.

Romantic episodes between the lead pair didn’t work at all due to poor writing. Director’s attempt to sprinkle comedy boomeranged with Saptagiri irking in the brief role he has. Music is pretty mediocre and there are far too many songs to interrupt the narration. Film gets interesting only towards the final act and everything ends in a hurry without proper buildup.

Although Tungabhadra is a laudable attempt, it couldn’t hold up as a film. Sai Korrapati’s previous films were high on entertainment, but this is too serious stuff for the regular audience. Better screenplay and tight narration might have made this a better film. As of now Tungabhadra will end up as a disappointment for majority of audience.

Verdict: Tungabhadra – Uneven Flow of Events
