With YSRCP opting out of the polls as a mark of respect, the Congress Party was the sole contestant in the fray in the Tirupati by-election which was necessitated by the unfortunate demise of TDP MLA, Venkata Ramana.
His wife, M Suguna who was given the ticket naturally won the polls on a huge margin of 1,16,524 votes. But Chandrababu lost no time in claiming that the victory was a referendum on his Party’s governance in the last eight months.
“We have successfully implemented our promises in the last eight months of loan waiver, free power to farmers, pensions etc. The people are pleased with us and that is why they have handed us such a magnificent victory in Tirupati,” said Naidu.
Now, everyone knows that Naidu has completely diluted the promises made on loan waiver. Also, claiming that the poll verdict was a referendum on the TDP when the sole contestant was Congress is not fair.
