Ownership of Hyderabad Metro Rail in jeopardy

The Metro realignment is all set to become expensive for the TRS government with the project concessionaire Larsen Toubro reportedly coming up with initial estimation of Rs 2,200 crore for realignment, which government says is not affordable.
The bigger issue, now is the actual pending amendment to the new Central Metro Act, which is not recognizing the public private partnership (PPP) model of this project, which has now more or less placed ownership of the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) project in complete jeopardy.
Sources say that the company is concerned because new Act is now placing big question mark on the role of the leading engineering company in the project, L&T. The company has reportedly written to the Centre.
They are requesting for amending the Act so that the PPP model can be allowed. L&T, which has already nearly invested Rs 6,000 crore, is concerned about the uncertainty. The experts say bifurcation of the state has taken a heavy toll on this prestigious project.
