In one of the rarest kind in medical history, woman described as ‘genetically male’ gave birth to healthy twins. Doctors who helped her deliver the twins said both the boy and girl infants are good. Doctors went on record saying this is a medical miracle and one in a million.
Woman who gave birth to twins on Saturday, earlier underwent many treatment procedures over the last three years to realise her dream of becoming a mother. Dr.Sunil Jindal, infertility specialty who was incharge of the treatment said it accords to something similar to male giving birth to twins.
The woman’s condition is termed as XY gonadal dysgenesis with external female characteristics but non-functional gonads or ovaries, the ovum-producing reproductive organs.
Doctors buoyed with the success are planning to present the case at the annual conference of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology to be held in Portugal in June.
