At last, Babu Gives Chance to Opposition?

In a move to meet financial woes, Andhra Pradesh government is all set to hike the power tariff. With Discoms proposing a tariff hike to Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC), the power tariff hike seems inevitable.
Power distribution companies have proposed a tariff hike of 6 per cent on the prevailing structure on all catgeories, excluding domestic consumers who consume less than 100 units and agricultural users. AP is facing transmission and distribution losses of up to 15 per cent. To bring down this and pass on its benefit to the consumers, Discoms proposed 6% hike.
The tariff proposals will have to be approved by the regulatory commission and expected come into force from April 1, 2015. AP is providing supply of seven hours of power to the agricultural sector during 2015-16 and uninterrupted power supply for all the consumers.
If government gives nod for power tariff hike, it’s going to give a major “weapon” for Opposition YSRCP to take on Mr Naidu. In the name of tariff hike, Opposition would get a bigger chance to go on agitations, raasta rokos, burning effigies, and above all one-day deekshas. Already, Babu has a bad reputation over hike in power tariff.
He had done it during his previous tenure which got severe flak. In fact, few activists of Communist Party, who protested against Babu’s government, lost their lives while confronting police personnel at Basheerbhag bringing more bad fame for Chandrababu. So, it needs to be seen whether Babu bites the bullet or turns down!
