Hyderabad HC criticizes Telangana State government for delay

A PIL submitted by the NGO Good Governance told that not organizing the GHMC was unlawful, arbitrary and unconstitutional. Mr Sivaraju Srinivas, counsel for the petitioner, submitted that Sections 4 to 7 of the GHMC Act made it understandable that the Corporation was to perform and release its duties just through democratically elected members with a stable tenure of five years.
He told the court that the selected body of the corporation had finished its five-year term on December 3, 2014, and the state government had designated a special officer to the corporation for a time of six months with effect from December 4, 2014, under Section 70 G of the GHMC Act.
Advocate-general of Telangana K. Ramak-rishna Reddy agreed that the government needed some more time to hold the elections and recommended the court to allow time to file a counter affidavit describing the causes for the hold-up.
