If you were to list out some of the best blockbusters in Tollywood then you will take the name of ‘Okkadu’ confidently. Many believe this is the film which gave superstar Mahesh Babu the much needed appeal among mass crowds and elevated his stardom.
It’s impact is such that ‘Okkadu’ released in 2003 but its remake is made now in Hindi as ‘Tevar’. But then, there are a few in the north who think it was a big flop. For example, a reviewer wrote like this ‘Yet again, we have a remake of an already terrible South film.’
Many feel it shows the ignorance some of the film intellectuals have regarding south Indian films. The logic remains that if it was a terrible film then why was it even remade with some A-listed stars on the first place.
For the record, ‘Tevar’ has touched a weekend collection of Rs 22.05 crores whereas the worldwide collections have touched another Rs 22.49 crores. This has become the third biggest grosser in hero Arjun Kapoor’s career. Need we say more?
