Bodo militants struck once again in Assam. In five different places militants belonging to National Democratic Front of Boroland (Songbijit faction) shot down 48 people including women and children belonging to adivasis on Tuesday. Army was deployed to maintain law and order.
Militants started killing around 5 PM at Maitalubasti in Sonitpur district in northern Assam, bordering Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan. More than 23 bodies were found around Pabhoi reserve forrest. Later militants shot down three at Pakhriguri village in Kokrajhar district in western Assam, bordering West Bengal.
The militants also targeted Ultapani village in Kokrajhar district from where six bodies were found. Only on Monday NDFB warned Govt of retaliatory attacks if Army operations against them are not stopped. PM Narendra Modi condemned the attack tweeting “Killing of innocent people in Sonitpur & Kokrajhar is an act of cowardice.
Our thoughts & prayers are with the families of the deceased.” and added “I spoke to Assam CM Shri Tarun Gogoi & Home Minister Rajnath ji. Rajnath ji will travel to Assam and take stock of the situation.”
