An unidentified gunman was holding unknown number of hostages inside Central Sydney Cafe on Monday. Local Television showed clippings that some of the hostages were forced to hold ISIS flag having black colour with white Arabic writing. Five people ran out of the Sydney cafe even as police informed that negotiators made contact with the gunman.
Clear picture is not emerging on whether hostages were still in the cafe or managed to escape from other areas of the building. Police declined to inform how many were still held as hostages. Police evacuated Martin Place in the central business district and armed police surrounded the Lindt Chocolate cafe.
Police also cleared nearby Sydney Opera House over suspicious package. In the meanwhile Indian consulate in Sydney is evacuated and security for Indian cricketers is increased in Brisbane. PM Modi expressed concern over the siege.
