There are reports that 8 Army jawans, which also includes a lieutenant colonel and three Jammu and Kashmir policemen and six militants were reportedly killed on Friday, which marked the deadliest upsurge of encounters witnessed in the Kashmir valley in years.
The Corps of Army has issued a statement stating that a fidayeen (suicide squad) of heavily armed and well equipped terrorists had opened fire at the Mohura Army camp with automatic weapons at a 3 am. One more squad entered the camp inside Army’s 32-Field Regiment base at Mohura, a heavily militarized area about 80 kilometres from the capital city of Srinagar.
The fire fight happened in Uri area close to the Line of Control. This is even as other camps closeby immediately mobilized their quick response teams (QRT) which killed all the 6 militants. This is being seen as a deadly attack in more than seven years. The army is on high alert after this incident and retaliations are expected.
