First there was a video showing two brave-hearted girls taking three boys to task when they tried to eve tease them on a public bus. People went crazy congratulating the girls and the government even announced a cash prize for their brave act. But the state is Haryana and in a state where honour killings are order of the day, the story takes a U-turn within a matter of days.
Now, as per the latest version, the girls, Aarti and Pooja are said to be tomboys who are known to brag about their so-called brave acts. From being brave girls, they are now being labeled as bullies who fancy beating boys without any provocation. Meanwhile, the bus staff on which the incident occurred was suspended temporarily. But then a whole of witnesses came forward to prove the girls were lying.
As per the latest version, the girls were not teased, but they simply picked up a fight with the boys for seats. Suddenly four women witnesses came forward to ratify the story and even the bus staff’s version was taken into consideration. Now, the bus staff is back on duty. The awards announced for the girls have been put on hold. And the latest version is being spread around.
While one cannot come to a conclusion before the final truth is out, one hopes the girls haven’t fibbed to get publicity as this would seriously impact proceedings in true incidents. Similarly, one cannot help but wonder that while so many witnesses have sprung up suddenly to prove the girls wrong, how come no one comes forward when grave incidents of rape and eve teasing are reported? Isn’t it something to be thought about?
