Looks like Sequels Season is running in Tollywood as we got to see two sequels on consecutive Fridays. Although Rough is not sequel to any film, it could have been branded as a sequel to any commercial potboiler that was successful in the past.
Story :
Chandu (Aadi) falls in love with Nandu (Rakul) but doesn’t express his love to her. Instead he meets her brother Siddhu (Srihari) and tells about it. Now Siddhu has to stop Nandu from falling in love with Chandu.
Performances:
Aadi is trying too hard for his age and size. It is an eyesore to see him lifting and throwing dozens of people that are double his size. He mouthed so many awful punch dialogues that will tickle your funny bone. Aadi looked out of place in this film. He should stick to his strengths if he is planning for a long career in movies.
Late Srihari has done one of the worst characters of his career in this film. Unfortunately this is the last film of the great actor. Rakul Preeth Singh pleases her fans in a couple of songs. Raghubabu gets on your nerves as usual. Tanikella Bharani, Ajay and Supreeth are the villain trio and there is nothing to talk about them.
On the Technical Front:
Dialogues are straight out of a poorly made Television serial. Songs are not good enough. We expect better than this from the legendary music director Mani Sharma. It is a shock to see such poor output from ace cinematographer Senthil. Production values are very average.
Director Subba Reddy doesn’t offer anything new. Director makes a bad impression with artificial emotions and over the top action. There is not a single scene that leaves an impact. He failed to make a quality product even with some renowned names in the technical crew.
Analysis:
Rough won’t do any good to Aadi, who is already struggling with a series of flops. He has to blame himself for selecting such script that doesn’t have anything fresh about it. Aadi has done serious work outs to suit the character. In spite of sporting six pack abs he didn’t had the look of a mass hero. Even the fight where he flaunts his abs was tacky and reminds you of Sunil’s Poola Rangadu climax.
Besides the over top action part, Rough fails to get the emotions right. Srihari utters some ridiculous dialogues in an emotional tone in the name of sister sentiment. There is equally bad Brother-Sister bonding between Aadi and Suhasini. On the top of that there is a stupid flashback about the childhood of hero. Rough will make you cringe for most of the time and make you rue for choosing this film to spoil your weekend.
First half of the film is slightly better than the second half which will make you search for the nearest exit all the time. Thanks to Rakul’s growing fan base, Rough got decent openings compared to recent releases. However it will surely suffer huge fall after the weekend as the word of mouth is spreading like wildfire. Stay away from this.
Verdict: Uff!
