Top Judiciary of India, Supreme Court’s tough stance on black money account holders forced Government of India to submit the complete list of Indians having illegal accounts with foreign banks.
Modi’s government today submitted list of 627 black money account holders to the Supreme Court in a sealed cover. Court however refused to open the cover saying only Chairman and Vice Chairman of Special Investigation can open the envelope containing these names.
Mukul Rohatgi, Attorney General said the list contained the names of account holders in HSBC bank, Geneva provided by French Government. Yesterday Supreme Court became serious when Government provided only three names citing that any more details could jeopardize the probe into the black money. Supreme Court lashed out that Union Government is protecting black money holders.
Some experts however say SC encroached into Government’s sovereign treaty and could hamper the probe as the confidentiality clause has been broken. Already Germany protested against India and soon US and other countries may stop divulging the information.
