There is a big debate going on in film circles, movie lovers that Mahesh Babu-starrer Aagadu didn’t “manage” to live up to the “high” expectations the audiences had on the film. While few complained that the movie was “Dookudu 2” and has several references to other films, most of them pointed fingers at the latter half. Novelty has been missing in almost all star-studded Telugu films of late. Rehash of the same-old scripts is not new in Telugu. This hasn’t started with “Aagadu” and it even doesn’t end with Aagadu. Then, why there is a hostile atmosphere, so much negative buzz around the film?
NTR’s Rabhasa and Ravi Teja-starrer Power too no “different” from Aagadu as the directors and writers of the respective films conveniently came up with paper-thin like plots. Fact of the matter is even Pawan Kalyan’s Attarintiki Daredi has enough “loopholes” as “Aagadu” has. If only Box Office numbers are what matters and do the talking, then even good, critically-acclaimed films too bombed at ticket windows. So, critic perspective do matters.
We don’t say “Aagadu” is great film or good film, but it’s not a bad film either. Had director Sreenu Vaitla focused enough on the latter part of the film and worked out well on the screenplay, had he avoided poorly-etched roles for Tamanna, Brahmi and had he got Mahesh-Tammu’s chemistry right, the film would have had different fate today. And many who are now talking ill of the film, would have raved about the film. All one need to understand is that the blame equally lies with the audiences who have been encouraging “formula”, “commercial” potboilers that sans logics.
