Legendary Telugu film director, Bapu (born Sattiraju Lakshmi Narayana) breathed his last today. Since this January, he is not feeling well and admitted to a corporate hospital a day after he was conferred Padma Sri Award. Apart from directing films, he is known for his paintings, illustrations and cartoons. Today, after he is being treated at a hospital in Chennai as he complained severe chest pain, breathed his last.

Born in 1933, Bapu entered into films with his 1967 directorial Sakshi and later made several award winning films like Balaraju Katha, Andala Ramudu, Mutyala Muggu, Pelli Pustakam, Mr Pellam and most recently Sri Rama Rajyam. All these films won Nandi awards, while Mutyala Muggu and Mr Pellam won National Awards too. He is recipient of several honours including a honorary directorate from Andhra University.
