The BJP candidate N Ramachandra Rao won legislative council elections from the Mahbubnagar-Ranga Reddy-Hyderabad graduate constituency. He edged out TRS backed candidate G Deviprasad Rao with a victory margin of 13,318 votes in what is seen as a shocking defeat for the TRS. The election was important as it was the first major one for the TRS after forming the government.
What worked in favor of the BJP was the frustration of the unemployed graduates. Though there are more than one lakh vacancies in the government sector, notifications are yet to be issued for any positions. Now students and graduates played a major role in the T-agitation and they also tend to be a little impatient in their demand for results.
Hence, unmoved by KCR’s plea for patience, the majority voted against his Party. KCR probably felt that the sentiment was still going to work in his favor as his Party leaders kept criticizing Seemandhra during the campaign. However, the graduates thought differently. “We have achieved separate Telangana. Now, it is governance that shall speak.
What does Seemandhra have to do with issuing notifications for jobs? It is KCR’s responsibility and he has shown no interest whatsoever. Hence, i voted for BJP,” said one voter. The win has come as a huge boost to the BJP-TDP combine in Telangana!
