Chandrababu is acquiring 38000 acres of fertile agricultural land for his new capital.
One obstacle to him could have been a proposal by the Union government to fix a ceiling on the maximum amount of fertile land that can be acquired.
But the Union government has now decided to completely do away with this proposal.
There is no limit now to acquiring fertile lands by the State governments.
Under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act 2013, states were directed to fix the cap on the total cultivable land to be acquired for any purpose.
The cap could be either at the district or the state level. Now, however, states have been told that the cap is not mandatory provided the states justify how they would make up for the productivity losses that the loss of fertile land would result in.
this means that in the case of Tulluru for example, all that Naidu has to do is calculate the current revenue from the 38000 acres and then inform the Center on alternate mechanisms to generate that revenue.
