At this point in time, it is almost difficult and impossible to separate Balakrishna the actor and Balakrishna, the MLA. Both his public roles have almost become inseparable from one another.
Given this backdrop, it goes without saying that any hit of Balakrishna is bound to increase the prestige of the ruling Telugu Desam Party, which happens to be the home turf of Balayya.
So there is general opinion that while the party stands to gain from Balayya’s filmi popularity, his films are running longer thanks to the support of the party cadre.
One example is the recently released film Legend which has set some interesting records. In fact, in some theatre, it has run for 400 days with a single show.
Naturally, this has triggered gossip that Balayya has been having such a dream run thanks to the support from TDP members.
Right now, TDP is in power in Andhra Pradesh and the yellow brigade is working overtime to make sure that Balakrishna’s films break all possible records.
In fact, the theatre owners of places where Legend’s single screening a day were held are all staunch TDP supporters and TDP leaders.
Well, there could be some truth in this bit of gossip as films of other star heroes are losing steam within two weeks at the most.
Even if the film is a hit, they are hardly running beyond the second weekend. So, without support from cadre, how can Balayya’s films run for so long, question industry insiders.
In fact, there are some who are pretty sarcastic about the records broken by Legend and the kind of records the film has broken.
