If Prabhas’ words are anything to go by, then wrapping up of “Baahubali” in 2 years itself is a big thing. When regular commercial masala movies are talking nearly 7 months to finish, pulling over an epic warfare with riveting visual effects is a daunting task that takes much longer periods. Thanks to the meticulous planning of director genius Rajamouli, as his worth preproduction helped the film to be made in just 2 years.
This short period of production is a record itself, but there is something much bigger which merits a discussion. Rajamouli has locked the run time of first part of the film, “Baahubali: The Beginning” as 2 hours 35 minutes. For regular commercial flicks, this director make a 3.5 hour cut and then reduces it to 2.5 hours finally version.
However he is dealing with visual effects now where any extra scene that has to be carved out needs investment. That minimised Rajamouli’s choice and he has to make a final cut before sending it to VFX, so there came the 2 hours 35 minutes runtime.
It’s a record of sorts because Rajamouli is known in film circles for filming extra scenes and footage at the expense of producers though there is recovery guarantee. If he makes 3.5 hours of visual effects film to chop out 1 hour from it later, the budget allotted for that 1 hour could easily produce a Maryada Ramanna kind of flick.
