Nestle’s nine variants of Maggi Instant Noodles were declared as harmful by central food safety regulator FSSAI after it found presence of lead and taste enhancer MSG in the product. The official ban costed the company hundreds of crores as it had recalled all the packets available with retailers, godowns and its factories only to destroy them.

In a statement issued by it last month, Nestle informed that Rs 320 crore worth Maggi Instant Noodles have been recalled for destroying. The whole process of recalling the stock, transporting it to the destruction location and melting the packets is time consuming and a costly affair.

Nestle India spent several crores to damage the Maggi instant noodles packets it manufactured in its various factories. Already, Rs 20 crore were paid to Ambuja Cements to destroy the recalled packets at its cement plant in Chandrapur, Maharashtra.
