It’s official. In a coldblooded betrayal, the BJP led NDA government has categorically denied according special status to any state including Andhra Pradesh. The Union Minister of Planning and Defense, Indrajit Singh Rao has stated in the Lok Sabha during the Question Hour that the centre is unable to accord Special Status to any Indian state following the Planning Commission’s directives.
The minster made these statements following intense questions regarding the survival status by the MPs from Bihar, Rajasthan and Odisha. The minster further stated that if needed, the centre will allot special packages to the states. Allthrough the speech, the AP MPs did not even utter a single word in protest against the centres decision.
It may be remembered that during the passing g of separate Telangana bill in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha last year, several BJP senior leaders like Venkaiah Naidu, Haribabu etc have assured AP of special status if BJP came into power. It has been more than a year since NDA’s rule and there have been no signs allotting the special status even after occasional protests by the people.
While the common people are highly dejected with the centre’s decision, the silence of the people’s representatives in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha has been pathetically deceiving. All the political parties in the state have grossly failed to keep their poll promises and it is now to be seen if they will counter the NDA’s decision in the coming future or continue to maintain their silence to people’s wishes.
