Now, Modi’s Make In India in films

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged the country’s film and entertainment industry to encourage the country made handloom products. The Prime Minister, who is vehemently spearheading his ambitious project Make In India, has said, “Our film industry should have at least 10 films where only handlooms are used.”

This morning, the PM visited Chennai to unveil the National Handloom Day and spoke about the importance of handloom. “Only 15 per cent of the clothes we use now are handloom product. If we just increase our usage by five per cent, the handloom sector will grow by 33 per cent. We need to popularise this among our youth. This will give the much-needed boost to the handloom sector,” said the Prime Minister.

Modi also called for a revival of fashion and design education in the country. The PM then days that the government is committed to extend social security cover to weaver families. Only in the award winning films like Krish’s Vedam and Prakash Raj’s Kanjeevaram, that the filmmakers portrayed the plight of the poor weavers.
