This will be a memorable association between the world’s largest railway system, Indian Railways, and the world’s most advanced railway systems, the Japanese Railways. The Japanese authorities have agreed to give a facelift to 400 Indian select railway stations spread across the country. Estimated at a cost of $140 billion, this modernization project will span over 5 years.

A delegation from the Railway Technical Research Institute from Japan will visit India soon to explore the opportunities for setting up of industries in this modernization and technology upgradation project. The primary objective of this co-operation is to achieve the proposed zero-accident mission along with providing odourless and waterless toilets and sanitation.

Union Minister of Railways, Suresh Prabhu, met the Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, Deputy PM and Finance Minister and heads of leading financial institutions to encourage investments in Indian Railways. The project will be overseen by the Research Designs & Standards Organisations (RDSO) of India.
